Summer Update

Greetings Members and Friends,

We hope that you and your families are well and enjoying the change of season, now into summer. Things may look different this year but we are still here to support our local businesses. The St George Business Alliance (SGBA) has partnered with the St George Community Development Coalition (CDC) to keep updated on the business offerings for many of our members. Thank you to the CDC for their assistance and partnership. As we expect a reduction in tourism this summer, we are pivoting and redirecting our focus on locals supporting local businesses. We are working with the CDC on a few projects that we believe will assist with this, stay tuned for more information as we will share as more information becomes available.

In lieu of our July “in-person” meeting we will be hosting online membership meetings via Zoom in July and August. Normally we take the month of August off but given the current circumstances we wanted to keep the communication going and provide an opportunity for businesses to share best practices, ask questions, and seek guidance/assistance as needed. These meetings can also be used to provide updates and information about your business, sales, or share important information that we can all learn about your business. The July meeting will be on Tuesday, 7/21 from 9-10am, and the August meeting will be Tuesday, 8/18 from 9-10am. We hope that you will join us and be part of the conversation.

We will be announcing our 2020 St George Business Alliance Scholarship Recipient in Mid-July, the deadline for applications was 6/30/20. The SGBA will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a local St George Student who is a graduating high school senior. The scholarship check will be payable before the start of the Fall Semester to help the student with higher education expenses. This is the 3rd year that the SGBA has awarded a local student with a $1,000 scholarship.  We would like to thank the Scholarship Committee for their work with selecting our recipient. The Scholarship Committee members are Michelle “Mike” Gee, Sharon Moskowitz, and Josh McPhail. Previous SGBA Scholarship recipients are Julia Kurr and Zach Cody.

Many of our businesses have opened, are in the process of opening, and are getting creative on how to serve their customers while adhering to recommended health and safety guidelines. We applaud the extra work, and creativity that business owners have navigated to get their doors open or offer curbside service.  Please consider buying local, and supporting your neighbors. Local support is more important now than ever.

We will send out the Zoom invitation in a separate email in the coming weeks. Stay safe and enjoy the warm summer weather.

Respectfully,

The St George Business Alliance Board of Directors

Jake Miller- President

Sandra Hall- Vice President
